After studying Chinese at the University of Washington for two years, I decided I wanted to spend summer 2003 studying Chinese in Beijing. I applied and was accepted to a program of Chinese study at Beijing University. Planning ahead, I bought plane tickets from Seattle to Beijing, arriving June 21 and leaving September 15, a total of 88 days. In the end, the program at Beijing University was canceled due to SARS. However, being stubborn, and greatly looking forward to being able to visit China, I went anyway and spent the whole summer traveling through China, sometimes alone, sometimes with Chinese people I met on the way. The purpose of this website is to share the adventures I had there.

My China experience is not over; in fact it is only just beginning. On February 2, 2004 I went back to China to study Chinese at Beijing Normal University. After studying there for a semester, Xiujuan and I moved to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, where my good friend and I started a custom manufacturing outsourcing business. On November 2, 2006 Xiujuan I got married, and in January 2008 we set up a small plastic injection molding factory of our own. See our ChinaForge.com website for details.
